2-Year Curriculum

Classroom Environment

Each class includes a time of worship, testimony, teaching sessions, activations and small group time.

When do we meet?

Faithful Teaching

Before approval, our curriculum undergoes a rigorous academic curriculum review with a team of respected Catholic theologians, including  Dr. Mary Healy, Dr. Alan Schreck, Dr. Daniel Keating, Rev. Peter F. Ryan, S.J., and Dr. Robert Fastiggi.

Not only did they work to guarantee that the curriculum is free from moral and doctrinal error and rooted deeply in Scripture, official Church teaching and the testimony of the early Church fathers, but they helped to provide greater precision and accuracy in the curriculum to diminish possible confusion and ensure full continuity with Church teaching.

This campus has been reviewed and approved by the bishop of this diocese.

All satellite campus leaders and instructors are graduates of the Encounter School of Ministry and strive to live out the ESM Core Values.

Kevin Monette

Campus Director

Kevin is a brother and a friend, who draws people into a deeper faith with his contagious enthusiasm and child-like anticipation. He has a tremendous passion for risk-taking growth and newness, convicted that—wherever we’ve been in our faith journey—“we are transformed by the renewing of our minds” (Rm 12:2), and we are being transformed “from glory to glory” (2 Cor 3:18).
In college, Kevin underwent personal formation through the St. John Society (SSJ) in the PNW, developing a heart for evangelism and the power of practical, biblical truths. After which, he spent 12 years leading and training others through the Alpha Course—facilitating encounters, healings, and developing leaders. Over 2020-2022, Kevin attended the Encounter School of Ministry Seattle Campus, where he discovered the “more” that God had made available through him and there discerned a call to expand and open the Portland Campus.
Kevin shares an active family life with his three children – Micah (10), Theodore (8), Emilie (6), and Samuel (<1) seeing Holy Spirit’s power uniquely alive through each of them—and his wife Rose, who has consistently shared a joint pursuit of ministering in healing and the power of prophetic encouragement.
Kevin has a heart for pursuing the lost, bringing people together, and exploring what “moves” a person. He’s a dynamic teacher and evangelist who will rarely miss an opportunity to impart the joy and freedom he’s received from the Father’s heart. It’s Kevin’s desire that—through this school—you might “know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Eph 3:19) and continually press in for more!

Rose Monette

Leadership Team

Rose is native to Portland and has a zeal for seeing transformation and revival come to the PNW. Along with a devotion to Kevin and their four beautiful children, Rose is deeply passionate for sharing the Father’s heart, Christian unity, and healing the whole person. Rose came from a traditional Roman Catholic background but has also had powerful experiences in the Maronite tradition and non-denominational communities. Over the last decade, she’s accompanied Kevin in running Alpha courses and assisted in local women’s ministry and retreats. Through her own profound personal healing journey, Rose has a particular heart for inner healing and freedom, releasing God’s mercy, and activating others into their heavenly destiny through the “more” of the Holy Spirit!

Dcn. Scott Aikin

Leadership Team

Deacon Scott Aikin has been a Permanent Deacon since 2007, married for 33 years to his wife Brenda, and has four young adult children. His family has lived in Vancouver, Washington since 1999. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology in 1992 and his Master’s degree in Natural Resources/Water Quality in 2000 from Humboldt State University in California. He has used that education in his full time career as the National Native American Programs Coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service working remotely in the Director’s Office in DC. He is an enrolled tribal member of the Prairie Band of Potawatomi Nation of Northeast Kansas and has more than a quarter century of experience helping the Federal Government carry out its trust responsibilities toward Tribes throughout the United States.

Janice Adkins

Leadership Team

Janice was born and raised here in the Pacific Northwest, and now calls Castle Rock, WA home with her husband Justin and their 6 children. Despite experiencing a typical “cradle Catholic” upbringing, it wasn’t until she became an adult that she had a piercing experience with the Holy Spirit. That encounter sparked a desire to seek a deeper understanding, healing, and intimacy with our Triune God. Through that intimacy she has experienced an abundant outpouring of love and mercy, and passionately desires to journey alongside others, assisting them to experience it for themselves.

Christie Walker

Year 1 Teacher

Christie Walker is a Catholic life and sobriety coach, speaker, and host of The Catholic Sobriety Podcast. She specializes in helping Catholics experience alcohol freedom so they can enjoy their lives and vocations fully present, fully alive, and fully claiming their true identity in Christ Jesus. Christie received her life coach training through the Professional Christian Coaching Institute (aligned with the International Coaching Federation), completed Ananias Training through the St. Catherine of Siena Institute, and is a student at the Encounter School of Ministry. You can find out more about Christie and the work she does by visiting her website, TheCatholicSobrietyCoach.com

Daniel Oberreuter

Worship Director

Daniel Oberreuter is a contemporary Catholic musician who has traveled the world sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through retreats, parish missions, and concerts. He is also the lead singer of the Catholic rock band The Thirsting, and the founder of RosaryRevolution.com, AmericaAdore.com and AuthenticCatholic.com. Daniel is well known across the nation for his blending of music, and testimony as a Catholic evangelist, and parish mission leader. His own personal mission is to inspire souls to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ in the Eucharist through Mary.

Allie Labrousse

Year 1 Teacher

Allie Labrousse was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. She has a passion for Encounter Ministries and its pursuit of activating the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the members of the body of Christ to enliven their faith and draw them closer to Jesus. In 2019, Allie graduated with her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Fox University, and has a heart to serve others as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Encounter Ministries has equipped her with tools to guide others in deeper inner healing through the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. Through the Encounter school, Allie has experienced her own inner healing as well as experienced a deepened intimacy with Christ through more clearly hearing the Lord’s voice. Encounter Ministries has enlivened her faith and helped her see the abundant supernatural life that God invites us to participate in. She has a heart for inner healing and freedom as well as physical healing ministry. She looks forward to what the Lord has in store for this next cohort of Encounter students!

Colleen Kawamoto

Year 1 Teacher

Colleen attended Catholic schools and went to Mass every Sunday with her family but never truly knew Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit. She viewed God more as a punisher and rule-enforcer than a loving Father. Shortly after moving away to college, Colleen stopped attending Mass, becoming a victim to the culture, traveling down many dark paths. After being away from the Church for nearly two decades, she had a powerful encounter with Jesus in a moment of despair that led her back home.

Guiding her to Encounter Ministries, Holy Spirit has set Colleen’s heart on fire with love. After several powerful encounters with each person of the Trinity, she wants to spread that fire to others and set the world ablaze with the Father’s love, Jesus’s mercy, and the power of the Holy Spirit .
Colleen wants to remind everyone who has a friend or family member that has fallen away from the Church to never stop praying for them-if she can make it back, anyone can!

Joyce Flynn

Year 1 Teacher

Joyce Flynn was born in a small farming community in the Willamette Valley, and was raised in the Baptist Church.  She lived in the Portland area most of her adult life, where she met her husband Stephen through mutual friends.  She started attending Mass with Stephen, who is a cradle Catholic.  After a long period of discernment, Joyce entered RCIA at Holy Cross Parish in North Portland, was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Church in 2008, eventually entering into the full sacrament of marriage in 2011 and serving the Church at three parishes.  Joyce has a passion for people, serving her community as a crisis hotline volunteer and spending many years mentoring those seeking help with drug and alcohol addiction. Joyce and her husband have been passionate about their relationship with Jesus, through small group faith formation, rich daily prayer life, pilgrimages to Asia and Africa, and embarking on a journey of discipleship through the Encounter School of Ministry.

Heidi Garcia

Year 1 Teacher
Heidi Garcia was born and raised in the Catholic faith in Guadalajara, Mexico. She moved to the US in 2000 where she went to school and received an associate of applied science in Dental Hygiene in 2017,
Married for 19 years, Heidi has 2 kids and enjoys being able to serve at her local parish during healing nights and regularly makes time to pray in adoration with the Blessed Eucharist.
Experiencing her own physical healing, Heidi had a deep encounter with the Lord 2 years ago, and things were never the same. After her encounter with Jesus and the Holy Spirit she realized that she wanted more.
Being led to the Encounter School of Ministry in Portland was an answer to that prayer. Having completed her first year of Encounter School, Heidi also serves on Inner Healing prayer teams at her local parish (St Alice in Springfield) for their monthly Thursday Healing Nights, and is involved in the Seven Sister’s Ministry, continuing prayer for her local parochial vicar and parish community.
Her passion is to help others have an encounter with the Lord and she believes that the best way to thank the Lord for what He’s done in her is by sharing her testimony with others, so they too can believe – not only is the Lord alive, but He’s actively at work in all of us.

Jeff Lindberg

Year 1 Teacher

Jeff is a convert to the Catholic faith. After entering the Church, Jeff, with his wife Rachel, had a sense that there was more to being a Christian than what they were then experiencing. While on a business trip, he was drawn to attend a Charismatic prayer meeting at the local parish and was baptized in the Holy Spirit that night. This initiated an extended period of deeper conversion and a desire to share the goodness of God with others. Jeff has been active in many parish ministries over the years, especially youth ministry and men’s ministry. He loves to praise God in song, has a heart for the lost, forgotten, and overlooked and desires to bring the Father’s inner healing to all. Jeff is a husband, father of eight, grandfather of five, and practices law for his day job.

Diane Boggs

Year 1 Teacher

After being baptized into the Catholic faith in her 30s, Diane experienced a radical conversion, healing, and direct call to serve Christ in ministry. Fearlessly she sought opportunities to serve Christ and eventually became a Pastoral Assistant to RCIA and Marriage Preparation where she dedicated her life for 23 years before retirement. She served on the Archdiocesan Faculty for Catechetical Certification, the Archdiocesan RCIA Commission, was a Living Your Strengths Coach, and an Annulment Advocate. Her most passionate joy in ministry is walking with others through their own personal conversion experiences. Diane is a recent cancer survivor and shares her story of passionate trust in Christ while facing a major illness. Currently a second year Portland Encounter Student, Diane has spent the last 20 years seeking her own personal healing experiences where she’s grown in knowledge and has continued to powerfully use her spiritual gifts and lead others through her testimonies of risk-taking. Diane is a wife of 40 years to her husband Kevin, a mother of two adult children, a grandmother to two grandchildren, and a dog mom to an energetic standard poodle.

Francisco Garcia

Year 1 Teacher
Francisco was born in Portland and has lived in Oregon all his life. Though baptized Catholic, his family fell away from the faith, and it was not until he met his wife that he had a conversion and came back into the Catholic church. Through RCIA, receiving his First Communion and Confirmation rites, he developed a desire to find out more about the Catholic faith. He soon started imparting scripture as a lector and began attending parish healing nights. These experiences awakened a deeper need, as he and a friend moved to establish a men’s group – helping men grow as spiritual leaders and fathers in parish and family life. Shortly after, Francisco discovered Encounter Ministries. Despite living hours away from the closest campus, his hunger to learn and develop a closer relationship with God inspired Francisco and his wife to take a weekly leap of faith in learning how to pray for others, gaining a deeper understanding of what it really means to be immersed completely in the Holy Spirit. Each week he experiences a renewed zeal and true healing and transformation that he’s been able to share with others. Heading into his second year of Encounter, Francisco is looking forward to also helping others grow in their own faith, bring healing and encouragement to those most in need.

Rachel Lindberg

Year 1 Teacher

Rachel is a lifelong Catholic who grew up in an active Catholic family, learning from a young age the importance of serving God’s people. Her father is a permanent Deacon and both of her parents modeled the Gospel spirit of service for Rachel and her six siblings. Rachel experienced a breakthrough in her relationship with the Lord when she received the baptism in the Holy Spirit as a young mother and wife. She has a passion for Scripture, building Christ-centered community and friendships, and leading others into an experience of the Lord’s healing and freedom. She is grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Lord to bring transformation and renewal to others and to share with others the Father’s heart and infinite mercy. It is Rachel’s great delight to love on her family: her husband Jeff, their eight amazing children, two delightful daughters-in-law, and five precious grandchildren. Rachel finds joy in country living and homeschooling her four youngest children.
